How to brew

A step-by-step guide on how to make coffee with the Twist Dripper

Close Valve

Twist the two parts to close the valve and place on cup.

Add filter paper

Place your filter paper into the Twist Dripper.

add coffee

Add 3 to 4 heaped teaspoons of medium grind coffee into the Twist Dripper.

add hot water

Pour in 200-300ml of hot (not boiling) water... Wait 1 minute after your water has boiled to ensure the water is not too hot. This will help to not burn the coffee grinds.

plunge coffee grinds

Using a teaspoon, plunge the coffee grinds downward until they disappear from floating on the surface. This makes sure you saturate all the grinds.

3 minutes brew time

Brew coffee for at least 3 minutes.

Twist to open!

Make sure your Twist Dripper is on your cup and twist to open. Let all the coffee flow through.

Clean up is a breeze!

Twist closed and dispose of coffee grounds. Rinse, swirl and stack on the rack... Ready for your next cuppa!

Coffee brewing FAQ

Having trouble brewing? Chances are we have the answer here:
  • If you are purchasing pre-ground coffee, we suggest plunger size grind.

If you have your own grinder, use a medium sized grind.

  • Unlike cheese, coffee doesn't get better with age.

If possible, use the freshest beans you can afford. This will ensure great tasting results.

If it doesn't have a roast date on the packet - don't buy it!

We use light, medium and dark roasts in our Twist Drippers. Although we do find the light and medium roasts produce more flavour than the darker roasts.

  • Use these measurements to get you started:

    200-250ml - 3 heaped teaspoons (14-16g)

    260-300ml - 4 heaped teaspoons (17-20g)

    1 heaped teaspoon = +-5g coffee

More coffee, less water = stronger

Less coffee, more water = weaker

We suggest figure out how you like your coffee. If you need more oomph add more coffee, if you need it weaker add less.

Then use that recipe forever! :)

It might take 2 or 3 cups to figure it out.

  • If you enjoy a dark, bitter tasting coffee, we suggest dark to medium roasted coffee beans.

If you just like a good, tasty cup of coffee, go for a medium to light roast.

And if you want to experience those crazy tasting, fruity blends - try getting a single origin, light roast. You'll be amazed at the flavours that come through!

  • Cone paper filter. Size 02

  • Coffee burns at high temperatures and thats when you get bitter, ash tasting coffee.

We suggest waiting at least 1 minute for your kettle to settle after you have boiled it. This ensures the water is not too hot.

FYI - Dark roasts burn easier than light roasts.

  • We advise at least 3 minutes brewing time.

Don't be worried about being exact.

I regularly forget my coffee brewing for up to 10 minutes and it still tastes amazing.

  • We want the coffee grinds to sink into the bottom of the funnel, so that when you open the valve the water runs through as much of the coffee as possible.

This ensures we extract all those delicious flavours.
